Since I live within walking distance of J&R and have spent many hours
of my life there, I can tell you that (along with B&H, for that
matter) they are one of the most honest dealers in the nation -- and
have a liberal return policy as well.

If they advertise an item as "new", then you can be assured of
receiving a new, factory-sealed product. If they advertise a product
as "refurbished" or "open-box", then that's what you'll get, and this
applies equally whether you're a walk-in, mail order, Web order, or
telephone order customer.

I've purchased literally tens of thousands of dollars of stuff (audio,
video, computer, etc.) from J&R over the course of the last 25 years
or so and have never once had a problem with their sales policies or
their return policies, and I have always received what I ordered.

As usual in this world, YMMV, but what I've written above is an
accurate reflection of my experience in dealing with them.

This is New York and I have many choices available to me and could
easily take my business elsewhere if I ever so desired, but with J&R
(and B&H) both so close by, I have generally only purchased elsewhere
when neither J&R nor B&H had what I needed when I needed it at the
price I wanted to pay.

I've purchased pro audio gear from Sweetwater, BSW, Sam Ash, and many
others from time to time, for example, for this reason, as well as pro
video equipment from G&G over in New Jersey.
