the ball is always in my court and that's why i seek out and get solutions
that have tons and tons of applications and benefits, not a box. i try to
and do think outside the box and our apple/mac solution put us in a very
small box compared to our window/pc solution with tons and tons of archive
and user group help.

as far as who i am, i'm a tv producer and editing house that uses a gateway
custom built computers that were nearly 1/3 the price of one of our g5's and
even with out avid software is less than the g5 alone. we were told by mac
that their solution with fcp was the best on the face of the earth and they
lied. not only was one of the units defective out of the box but they
couldn't help find a solution to fix it other than "reboot" the system only
for us to learn from a former mac user that the motherboard was defective.
then when we took it to an "authorzied macintosh repair station" apple/mac
wouldn't cover the warranty on this 4 month old unit because as they put it
the repair facility was not an "authorized warranty station" and thus we had
to eat the repair.

moreover, fcp rendering times were ridiculous. avid is at least 1/3 the
rendering time and we were pleased to learn that could virtually drop any
file format on the timeline and it worked. our fcp solution as recommended
by apple was a total disaster and crashed every time we did this unlike what
apple said. in other words, they lied.

i'm glad that what you have is working and wish you continued success with
your solution. however, for us it was the biggest disaster we ever faced in
the business thus far, let alone we were told how and what to do by 4 other
houses that dumped their macs and got pc solutions it was then that we
learned that greater than 86% of primetime television and hollywood movies
were edited on avid software. we made the switch after we found some sucker
to buy both our g5's in arizona and that move saved our business. we loaded
the avid software and have been totally funcitional from the get go!
without fixes, mods, or anything else. it worked out of the box and still
does and we've produced 40+ programs with this solution and tons of edting
for the several location tv stations who don't have the time to wait on
rendering and crashes on their mac's (a decision that was made by the
executives who don't use the software/equipment)

so, yes the ball was and is in our court and we're bouncing it well and
scoring with windows/pc and avid. thank you to all those guys who helped
out of a apple/mac hell that hurt us financially. in fact, if we had stuck
with our apple/mac solution we would have died in the marketplace.
