Pioneer and NEC to showcase blue-laser DVD drives in December
Kevin Hsu, Taipei; Adam Hwang, DigiTimes.com [Friday 25 November 2005]
Pioneer High Fidelity Taiwan and NEC Taiwan will respectively showcase
their Blu-ray Disc (BD) and HD-DVD burners and players at the annual
IT Month fair beginning in December in Taipei.
The Pioneer BD burners to be exhibited do not have content protection
due to a delay in licensing of the anti-piracy AACS (advanced access
content system), Pioneer High Fidelity Taiwan indicated. Volume
production of BD burners equipped with CCAS will begin next quarter,
the company noted.
The HD-DVD players to be shown will have playback functions only with
volume production to kick off in December, NEC Taiwan pointed out. The
timing of the launch of HD-DVD burners will hinge on market conditions
and the strategy adopted by the HD-DVD group, the company added.

because they almost always turn out to be -- or to be indistinguishable from
-- self-righteous sixteen-year-olds possessing infinite amounts of free time."
