The idea that Blu-ray signed onto was that, if an unregistered disc is
inserted, the central database will disable the player (requiring a repair).
That is the need for a network connection. After this agreement, a bunch of
movie companies signed on. If Sony et al. go back on this then the whole
agreement falls apart.....
People just don't get it: We are moving to pay per view, pay per machine,
pay per copy, pay ad naseum.
