However, since you said that you are already using IIS server,
take a look at Windows Media since the encoder is free (even
for streaming as I have heard.) And there are free versions of
the Media Player for the majority of your customers (PCs and
Macs).
Google returned 66700 hits for: non-proprietary video streaming
likely some of them are worth a look.
Note, however, that if you do select a non-proprietary method,
it will likely require ALL your viewers to download and install
a new viewer. This will dissuade the majority of your customers.
I have read some interesting arguments that Macromedia Flash
is likely the most "widespread" format out there today. More
PCs and Macs came with Flash player already installed than
any other technology.
