Hi. I'm in an email conversation with somebody that's trying to program
special key-function codes into a One-For-All-4 universal remote, a
URC-7740, so that they can convert their Sony RDR-GX120 DVD-recorder to
region-free.
Unfortunately, the conversation is extremely slow-going, and I don't
yet know if the URC-7740 takes 3-digit or 5-digit key-function codes.
(Typically, the older OFAs use 3 digits and the newest use 5 digits.)
Can anybody that owns a URC-7740 help me out here please?
A URC-7740:

The Sony hack:

To check if the OFA takes 3 or 5 digit codes, you do the following.
* Press the DVD button
* Hold the "magic" key until a double flash occurs on the DVD button.
* Enter 994 and watch for a double flash
* Press "magic" once without holding it
* With about 1 second between each key-press, enter: 0 0 0 0 0 0
Did a double flash occur after the 4th or the 6th zero? If it's the
former, then the OFA takes 3-digit codes and if it's the latter, then
it takes 5-digit codes.
(To restore the "0" key to normal: hold-magic ** 994 ** 0 0 **)
