Push up your sleeves, put on your shades and strap yourself in for Miami
Vice Season 2, burning on to DVD for the very first time on 24 July 2006
courtesy of Universal Pictures and Playback. Brace yourself for 22
high-calibre, pure action episodes packed into 6 discs. An instant
international smash in the 1980s, Miami Vice screened for five seasons and
made A-list stars of Don Johnson, Philip Michael Thomas and Edward James
Olmos, creating a fashion and cultural sensation that has not been seen
since and with the forthcoming release of the new Miami Vice movie, is
enjoying a current renaissance.
It's 1985, the height of the "Me" decade, where hedonism rules and anything
goes, and nowhere does it go further than in Miami, a steamy hotbed of
drugs, gambling, prostitution and corruption. Detective James "Sonny"
Crockett (Johnson) is a renegade cop in the Vice department who breaks every
rule in the book to get results, but Sonny never loses sight of his goal -
putting away the bad guys; Sonny's partner is Detective Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs
(Thomas) a tough cop form the Bronx, out to avenge the murder of his brother
by a notorious drug lord. Together they work undercover in the Florida drug
world bringing down the barons and putting away the pimps and pushers while
still finding time to look good and drive fast cars. Meanwhile back at
precinct headquarters it is left to the steely Lieutenant Martin Castillo
(Olmos) to keep them on course and within the law.
Produced by Michael Mann ( Collateral, Heat, The Insider) Miami Vice first
burst on to television screens in 1984, and was showered with awards and
nominations, with 1986 Golden Globe awards going to both Don Johnson (Best
Performance by an Actor in a TV-Series - Drama) and Edward James Olmos Best
Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or
Motion Picture Made for TV). The series earned a further 2 Emmy Awards, 5
Golden Globe nominations and 14 Emmy nominations.
