Its primarily a Utah thing. The local predominant religion frowns upon watching
R Rated movies, yet so many LDS members like watching action flicks but insist
on sanitized versions so they are safe for their little eyes. In other words,
they want to have their cake and eat it too. Its hypocritical in my opinion,
either just dont watch R rated movies or watch them as intended, don't act so
pious.
