I believe the single most important consideration is Ethernet. With it
you do not need hard disks or DVD burners on the recorder. Just send
the files to a file server/DVD burner.
Who wants to maintain a computer in their living room. Not I. I would
rather see the manufacturers put at least two channel TV card in so I
can record two shows at the same time.
With 100BaseTX (100 mb/s) Ethernet you have plenty of bandwidth to
capture two shows over the LAN. All it takes is integrating a TCP/IP
stack in the recorder and adding a NIC chip to the mainboard.
