Oh, yes. I remember that. And I still believe he believed it, and he
might be backing away now that he sees OTHERS thought he was kidding.
But I'm reminded of something I read about Sinclair Lewis, that some
literary people thought his first novel was satirical (I think this was
in an article by E. L. Doctorow). But he was serious. When he saw that
he was able to sell himself this way, he began to posture that the
satire was his aim all along, and intentionally wrote in that vein from
then on. That's what Nu-Monet did. When he saw others thought he was
intentionally being ridiculous, he decided to go along.
