I was introduced to the Church of the Subgenius from a binaries
newsgroup, where a woman steeped in the church, the meetings and so on,
had a link to it in her signature. She posted photos like everyone
else, but she had this signature and I followed it because she said such
interesting stuff. She called herself Sister Decadence. She was smart,
and beautiful, and she had her very own list devoted to herself, where
to the delight of her fans she'd post pictures of her live sex shows,
during which she exemplified sexual freedom. From her link, I found
some of the funniest stuff I'd ever seen on the internet, presented in
some incredibly skilled photoshop and artwork, bizarre composites that
verged on meaning, but to cross the line would ruin it. One of the
pictures proclaimed "Beautiful children for you to adopt," and it was a
seamless composite with two figures evoking the creatures from "They
Live" and something else even weirder. Another time, someone made a
video using one of the films from the Prelinger Collection, the one
about what to do on a date (if you haven't been to this site, I suggest
you get to it; I download a lot of stuff from it). I had seen it, so I
appreciated their edit even more. They had inserted a nicely actualized
cartoon of Bob throughout the edited film, suggesting Bob was this
sinister presence. I'm amazed by some of the imaginative stuff they
produce. And while I appreciate it, I humbly have to admit I'm not up
to creating it myself. I just have to stand back in awe, and appreciate
the fact that SOMEONE can do it, making for entertainment that competes
easily with some of the best stuff produced on TV.

And just my analyzing it so gushily is against the Church principles, so
I can never be a real member.
