My purchases of Spider-Man 2, Sin City, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith came with
cardboard slipcovers, which as far as I can tell, are completely
unnecessary. They have the exact same cover art on front and back,
except for Sin City. In the case of that film, different covers were
available to choose from. Aside from that lone novelty, I am genuinely
confused what the point of these are. Surely they add to the cost, so
why are they there? Are they a means of proving that we bought the
first pressings? (Assuming that subsequent pressings don't come with
the covers.)
Mr & Mrs. Smith have the added complication of having the UPC box cut
out so near the top of the back cover, that most of the copies at my
store had been torn.
