We regularly take HDV source material. Capture as DV (from M10 deck direct
from camera in DV downconvert mode).
Offline then reconform the HDV via a Miranda to make frame based HD sequence
and avoid the HDV long GOP issues.
It's a slow process conforming the HDV material as the M10 deck is just not
cut to be an edit source.
Some clips won't conform and need to be taken into a new sequence as HDV and
then transcoded to frame based media to go back to the main conform.
We either work uncompressed HD on our DS for the best results or on an Avid
Adrenaline using Avids DNxHD codec for great results. And the new Adrenaline
upgrade (now just called Media Composer) supports true uncompressed HD.
So yes it works but it's not a walk in the park. Timecodes come across from
the DV edit to the HDV conform just fine allowing for the normal DV frame
slipages.
