Hmmm Video killed the Radio Star, however what a waste of thread... :-)

But, here my two cent for the half cent it's worth.

DVD is not dead, at least not yet. CD in time may go out given time, I
doubt if it will be next year. (The phonograph record lasted 100 years
before going out.)
Looking at the DVD, it will only be good for 480p format, HD would be hard
to put one there, and the disk would have to spin really fast too.

As for Copy protection, well I can't see how it could have better copy
protection. Why? Because, forgive the word, it's "DIGITAL". To play
it, you need a way of decrypting it right? The same software used to play
it, can be manipulated to, -- oh god -- copy it. A possible way could
be is, NOT put the key on the disk, but have it encrypted on a server, so
you would have to have an Internet connection to play it. (Oh no! PPV
videos on disk!) But, even still, again the software could be manipulated
after the key was downloaded, then the dang thing would be ALL OVER THE
INTERNET.

A very real problem is, is that DVDs now have so much copy protection on
them, many have to decrypt them so they can even play them, since
most of the processing is now going in to decrypting it rather then decoding
the video. And, this is snow balling at an alarming rate too. The truth is,
most don't want a copy of a movie, they want the real thing. And, it would
be nice to be able to throw the damn disk in my PC, without ripping it to my
hard drive first!

As for the new disks, High Density DVD and the Blue-ray Disk, I will put my
focus on the feud between them. It's gonna be like the VHS vs. Bata Max wars
all over again. I place my bets on the Blue-ray Disk cause it holds a
promise of 400GB on a dual sided 4 layered disk. Eek-gods, that nearly a
half a Terra Byte!

Well that's my two cents worth, minus the price of inflation which it what,
a quarter penny?

PS: Cassette did NOT kill the LP, CD did. It killed the 8-Track only because
no one knew how to re align the heads after cleaning, which caused the cross
talk. Hint, it was a little screw at the bottom of the player.
