For those who may care, Canon officially announced two new 1080i HDV
camcorders yesterday: the XH G1 (U.S. $6999) and the XH A1 (U.S.
$3999). A press release can be found at the following URL.

Product information can be accessed via the following two links.

Canon XH A1 (product information)

Both of these new products have traditionally-styled bodies - no more
chain saw. Both have non-removable 20x zoom lenses, balanced XLR audio
and aside from the lens, use the same imaging system as the earlier XL
H1 (U.S. $8999).
The XH G1 has HD-SDI out with embedded audio and embedded time code,
genlock input, and time code input/output. The XH A1 lacks these three
features.
The XH A1 is designed to appeal to GL2 owners wanting to go HD.
