Sorry Larry but that's just the way it is with Vegas :-(
This is something a lot of users (myself included) have complained to Sony
about but,so far, no response.
As you've discovered, Vegas will recognize timecode from a pre-recorded tape
but not the way you want.
If you'd like to pursue this further, I'd suggest asking the question on the
Sony Vegas forum which is at
http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/forums/ShowTopics.asp?ForumID=4
There are a lot of users there with a lot more knowledge than who may be
able to point you in a different direction.
You'll have to register to be able to post there but it's painless :-)
