That probably is the answer. The portable cd player you have probably
uses the album name you supply and probably plays the files in
alphabetical filename order.
My mp3 player lets me drag and drop directories and maintains those
names when editing with windows explorer. However, the player sorts by
various categories using album, artist, song title etc from the embedded
id data.
There is a freeware program, mp3tag.exe that you can use to edit these
fields and add prefix numbering.
