I think it is a serious mistake to regard Islamic fundamentalists as
"seriously deranged" ...especially when we have people like Pat
Robertson and James Dobson on "our" side.
Seriously, they are not deranged. It really is a culture clash. And
they really do believe that America is out to destroy them.
They believe that because so many Americans say that they think that
Moslems are seriously deranged, and don't often make fine distinctions
between groups like Hizbollah and Lebanese citizens. It's obvious to
the entire world that America needs Middle Eastern oil, and that it is
implied American policy that, if worst came to worst, it would be
"justified" in seizing the oil rather than allow it's economy to fail.
For the record, I don't believe Bush believes this himself. I think he
really believes it is about democracy. I don't think I would say the
same, though, for the people around him who are really leading the
policy decisions.
