Yep, sounds like a timecode break is messing up the "duration"
calculation.
If you frame step through the source tape, you'll likely find a timecode
break near the head or the end of one of the clips that's forcing the
"screw-up".
Be thankful that the software is smarter than it used to be... back in
the day, this would have caused the whole capture to mess up!
If it's working, you can ignore it.
