This may be a simple answer.

I purchased blank dvds at the store: Sony, DVD-R, 4.7 G, Version:
2.0/1x-8x

When placed in the dvd rw on three computers the blank dvd confuses the
drive to thinking it is a cd rom drive. The discription in win xp "my
computer" blinks from "DVD RW" to "CD Rom" before your eyes.

Computer 1: Toshiba odd-dvd sd-r5272
Computer 2 and 3: Lite-On 16x dvd-rw shw-160p6s

The drives have all been burning dvd discs for years without any
mishaps. (different version dvds however)

This happens in three computers I own, I happen to also have a new mac
book pro which realizes the blank dvd perfectly.

Could someone please explain to me why this is so and if there is any
way around it.
