As much as I thought I wanted one, I'm glad I didn't pay for it. To date,
the webcam has been about as useful as some preset DSP-effects on an
amplifier... "Oh look, you can make it sound like the music is coming from a
large stadium -isn't that great!"
....After waving to your brother a few times in Yahoo Messenger, you wonder
why you bothered.
For twenty quid it'd be alright as an infrequently-used gizmo, but believe
me the ones that you get for 20quid are _awful_ (I sent back 2 free ones
they were so bad).
For 45-50 the quality begins to get better... but already they are vastly
overpriced for waving at the cat in your mother's house.
I was thinking they could be great for security purposes -viewing the house
while away, etc., but so far I haven't tried doing anything like that.
Believe me -if you're gonna spend money on a "proper one" you're gonna waste
too much money (by that I mean 40+ ...but the best ones are >100). If you
don't spend as much as 40+ you are _definitely_ wasting your money on a
piece of crap that can't even do the job you won't spend too long doing
after the initial 5 minute waving.
For the record, mine is a Logitech something-or-other ("Communicator" I
think -nothing written on it though).
Quality isn't bad.
And I'm afraid the Peter Pan outfit is in the wash.
-Kevin.
