I think you need a new tech.
People here often recommend recording at a lower speed than the disk is
rated at. They claim to get better results that way...
DVD-RW blanks are for anything that can do DVD-RW. Computer, set-top
box - it doesn't matter as long as the device is manufactured to do it.
You said the manual "refers to these type of disks". Does it say you
can use them, or does it say you can't use them? "Refers to" is a bit
vague...
What matters most is the quality of the disks. People have lots of
problems with certain brands - unfortunately, what are good or bad
brands for your burner may not be the same as for mine.
Others will have more specific advice, according to their preferences
and experience.
