There are mini dv decks, most notably the popular JVC dual decks, the
latest version being the SR-VS30. They are more expensive than a cheap
mini DV camcorder but they offer better connectivity and deck-type
features, plus an S-VHS deck built in. There is now a mini DV / DVD
dual deck as well.

Look at the more expensive Canons, Sony, JVC and Panasonic. All of
them also make semi-pro or pro equipment and depending on your budget
you might want to consider that. The user-controllable features are
more plentiful, the chips are better and the mechanisms are usually
sturdier than in consumer gear. Again, I don't know what your budget
is to recommend anything specific. Also, what type of stuff do you
shoot?
