Never confuse the quality of a movie with the quantity of box office
money when it comes to Hollywood. Tom Cruise antagonized Steven
Spielberg with his Scientology antics during and after the making of
War of the Worlds. By tossing Cruise off the Paramount lot, Sumner
Redstone gets rid of an expensive, aging actor and also thinks he is
keeping happy Spielberg, Paramount's newest asset. A fews years back,
EMI bought out Mariah Carey's contract for millions and let her go,
figuring she was all washed up. That turned out to be an expensive
mistake for EMI, Carey had the top earning CD last year. Letting
Cruise go is a similar mistake, another mistake by Paramount Production
Chief Brad Grey, a greedy agent turned pinchpenny top executive.
Cruise's last two movies, MI3 and War of the Worlds, should top $1
billion in worldwide box office and DVD earnings. Niether Will
Ferrell, Owen Wilson nor anyone else approaches Cruise's box office
earnings worldwide.
You can be sure that Jerry Bruckheimer has already spoken with Cruise
about making a movie together. C.S.I. Hollywood?
