It was probably the exception to the rule, but the old Sony
consumer-grade DHR-1000 DV VCR supported both channel 1/2 and channel
3/4 modes for both recording and playback as well as audio (and video)
insert editing.

The DHR-1000 was a DV-only deck (no DVCAM support) which accepted both
Mini (small) and Standard (full-sized) cassettes.
