The battery will not drain significantly if the power is off.

The tape against the heads is not necessarily a problem in and of
itself but variations in temperature, humidity and keeping it as such
unused for a significantly long period of time could create one. If
you intend to do so it might be a good idea to power up every few days
and roll a few seconds so you don't sit in the same spot indefinitely.
If the unit is going to be subject to adverse conditions (summer heat,
etc.) you need to store it somewhere else.
