If you can leave tape in, but not threaded up, that would be safer than
leaving it threaded all thru the tape path inside the unit. You might
wind up getting various pinch rollers and stuff with flat spots on
them, like when you park a bike on the cement floor of a garage all
winter and bring it out in the spring, you have a flat spot on the tire
from the weight. If this happens to your tape path you risk periodic
dropouts and jams from uneven tape travel. Also if you ever need to pop
out the tape without using power, threaded tape will get ruined more
likely than one just sitting int he shell.
