Progressive vs. interlaced is a concern only with the TV and player, i.e.
how the images are displayed. It has nothing to do with the DVD, HDD, or
VHS media, i.e. how the images are stored.
Yes, I think progressive scan is usually available only through component
connectors, but ... ??? Again, read the owner's manual.
