Describing a soundtrack as 3/2.1 is actually just a different way of
notating 5.1. It just means 3 front channels, 2 rear channels and the .1 is
the LFE. Both notations are equally legitimate. My Pioneer 575 DVD player
refers to all 5.1 tracks as 3/2.1 on the audio properties info. Try some
other discs on your player and toggle the audio button to see how it
describes them.

Does your amp have Dolby Pro Logic 2 and is your TV connected up to it?
It's obviously not as good as a solid DTS track but I find it makes watching
films on TV acceptable.
