You are using the VCR as an RF modulator. Some VCRs will handle the
macrovision copy protection OK through their RF outs when not
recording, while some won't. If you hooked it up correctly, then
yours apparently won't. So, yes, it appears you are stuck with
getting a TV with A/V inputs or an RF modulator. The good news is the
last I checked, RF modulators are even cheaper than before and can
often be had for about $20.
