Question about movie length and DVDs

Posted by snapper on 10/07/54 11:57

I downloaded Memoirs Of A Geisha and I want to burn it to DVD but I am
confused on what I am seeing. A regular DVD (DVD5) will hold 120
minutes from my understanding.

My confusion arises when I set up the movie for burning using Nero
Express 6. I load the files in and Nero shows me that the total size
is 2,884 MB and indicates that it will fit onto a DVD5 disc with
plenty of room left. However, if set up the movie for burning using
DVD Shrink 3.2 it also says the movie is 2,884 MB but specifies the
duration of the movie is 2 hours and 19 minutes. It also shows that
there is room to spare.

How can a 2 hour and 20 minute movie fit onto a 2 hour disc (DVD5)
without being shrunk and have room to spare?

I am new at this so I suppose I am making some erroneous assumptions
mixed in with a little lack of understanding.

Any help would be appreciated.
