Hi,

WMM will open an mpeg2 file, but won't open a vob file (which is
different). Your camcorder saves to the DVD blank media using mpeg2.

Sounds like you've created a DVD video to watch on the TV, which is
..vob.

It would be nice if you could just put the DVD in your computer, open
the video files on the DVD, and import them into a video editing
program.

But it doesn't work that way.

DVD video is in a special .vob format, with the video not in just one,
but many .vob files on the disk. And not any video editing programs can
open, compile, and convert .vob files (Except Sony Vegas 6c).

This means that before you can use the video from a DVD, you must
convert it from the .vob format to a standard video format (such as
..avi or mpeg).

To do this, you must use a DVD 'ripping' program - specialized software
that can find and convert .vob files from a DVD into common video
formats.

After testing a few of the widely available DVD ripping programs
recently for an article I'm writing, I chose to use Flash DVD Ripper -
a shareware program that you can try free with limitations or buy the
full version for $35. (There are many others that work just as well -
it just happens that this was the first one I tested that really
worked.)

Find it at http://www.flashdvdripper.com

Hope that helps,

Pete

p.s. I would advise you sell your camcorder and get a MiniDV camcorder
instead.
