Yes it does. Don't forget that PAL also have wider colour gamut and
extended black levels that are more compatible with HDTV that NTSC are.

I have Philips DVP-5960 multiregion player (Panasonic DVD-S99 soon!!!) set
to upscale to display native resolution of 1080i and connected via HDMI to
Toshiba 34HF85 HDTV. I also have and compared the following titles:
a) US R1 LOTR:Two Towers (Extended Edition)
b) UK R2 LOTR: Return of the King (Extended Edition)

Based on extended PQ comparison of these titles over the past few months,
I've concluded that either TT is either seriously defective or that the
NTSC standard is at fault here. TT PQ seem shite, whilst ROTK PQ seem like
looking through a window at events outside.

I'm seriously considering replacing TT with UK release.
