So it'll take a while, because you people are actually too stupid to
appreciate the technology - what else is new? This is the same crowd
that wants the home PC dumbed down to toaster level, but then lament
its lack of performance/features.
HDTV is a lot more complicated than SD, and even after showing someone
like the above a true HD setup, they still may not get it. So be it,
it's not for everybody, and you're always going to get the "gee, it's
too complicated" gomers lamenting why it doesn't come with just an on
and off switch. <shrug>
I have Comcast HD cable in the east bay (norcal). We receive
Fox, NBC, CBS, ABC, INHD1, INHD2, DiscoveryHD, and ESPNHD. After
20:00 KQEDHD kicks in. I have noticed some motion-compression and the
few occasional bad-signal drop-outs, but otherwise it's not too bad
for +$5 a month (I currently pay Comcast ~$100 monthly - $50
broadband/$50 digital/HD cable - in my location OTA reception is
extremely lousy/non-existant). When a good HD signal kicks in, you
can immediately tell that it's superior to even the best DVDs.
Immediately. After a while you can also easily tell between true Hidef
cameras and simply widescreen - very apparent in the Nascar broadcasts
where pit cameras are widescreen but not hidef (I've also seen this in
some NFL broadcasts - prone to switching during breaks - also where
all of a sudden you can barely read the numbers). And of course, - the
dreaded return to "regular broadcast" after watching a hidef program
(this is often enough to make me turn off the TV and get on my PC or
read a book). So yeah, even after all the gyrations, it's not yet
perfect but for many of us an hour of "Sunrise Earth" is still
superior to the best SD broadcast out there :-) Cheers.
