Sounds like a fun project.

I'm a fan of simplicity, I had this idea:

Put together one tape, use closed captioning to create the conductor
cues using very large dingbat fonts. One tape serves both sources and
stays in synch no matter what. The timing of how you place the cues
inthe CC track might be tricky.

If I was going to do this job, I'd use either a hard drive server-based
system like the corporate theater guys use, that outputs two synched
streams, (expensive) or I'd go with dual DVD players and a remote
(cheap). The cheap method using the DVD players is to merely trip them
using the same remote and hope they don't drift apart too far, which
may be a reasonable bet *IF* they start together. OR, you can use
industrial type DVd playes as are used for museum installations, as
these can be alved or synched with a specialized device that's not very
expensive, just a little hard to find.

I'm not a programmer, but I imagine there is a way to synchronize two
flash files to play in lockstep.
