I dunno, I consider the fact it actually captures the grain as a sure sign
that the resolution is improved.
Of course, the PAL transfers do come closest, since they already have close
to the same vertical resolution as DVD. Where you really notice is
horizontally and in colors - I really think the new DVD is worth getting if
you, like me, are a fan of the original movies and want the best quality you
can get.
I was anxiously awaiting the X0 transfer, but I doubt they'll be able to top
the DVD. It's all about the source... and man, did they put alot of work
into those...
Perhaps they'll take the DVD source and clean it up...

P.S. I watched the "SE" of SW just for grins - what is it about that toad
Lucas that he has to either overbusy every screenshot or create expository
scenes and dialog as if we we're all clinically retarded? I mean EVERYONE
knows that Leia put the Death Star plans into R2, but IN CASE YOU MISSED IT,
here's a close up scene of some actresses hand shoving a credit card into
R2... jeez. And don't get me started about Mos Eisley... I found myself
wanting to crane my neck around all the new moving digital garbage Lucas
keeps passing in front of the lens... it's DISTRACTING US George.
