Or perhaps rarely discussed because it is like asking what
is the best car, or camera, or hamburger, or whatever.
The Audio-Technica AT 831b seems to be popular IME.
OTOH, I have used $5 "computer mics" with equal success.
The guys who do big-time TV & feature film sound over on
news:rec.arts.movies.production.sound have regular
discussions about this question (never with any clear winner).
