Hold your horses here.

Channel 5 (like most TV channels) relies on the assumption that people watch
TV...as a media. It isn't assumed people will just watch ONE channel.

I don't think you can subscribe to one single channel on Sky for example.

In terms of current TV, whatever people's views are - it is business, and
competitive. Channels barter around for presenters, programmes etc. Channels
are forced to make better shows to tempt people away from other channels.

Eventually, if you had your way, all the shows you watch for free, will end
up on some premium pay for channel subscription service, and free channels
will be filled with that much junk it makes the show unwatchable.

i.e The Weakest Link stateside, has that many advert breaks it ruins the
pace, vs the UK version. Coronation Street will have 3-4 breaks per half
hour (because of logistics, if the BBC start gaining advertisers, the income
to other channels is reduced). This increases the amount of time the show
runs for, in effect, the amount of shows in a 24 hour period is reduced.

But everyone who has been "forced" by the anti-licence fee population, to
pay for increased subscription rates (or just not watch TV at all), will, no
doubt be making their own threads :-)
