On a different slant here, what motherboard have you got, and do you
know the approximate "vintage" / age of it ?

My old machine had an ECS board which got progressively less stable in
exactly the manner you describe, and changing the PSU and gfx card made
no difference.

Its hard for me to be definitive, but I strongly suspect one of the
capacitors was failing on my board - could be the same on yours too.

About 3-5 (?) years ago, many of the big-name manufacturers started to
use a cheap chinese electrolyte made up from a stolen "ingredient" list
in their capacitors, and many failed at around the 12-24 month old mark.

My machine was on 24/7 which you would have thought would have enhanced
the failure rate, but it far outlived the board I was supposed to have
got (me and a mate ordered from Maplins at around the same time - my
name was first on the list, but they contacted him and he got it - it
failed rather quickly)

Try taking the side off the machine and look closely at the capacitors
around the CPU socket - if any have a slightly "domed" top (rather than
flat) or you see any "oozing" fluid it could well be that.
