with the phono leads, you are letting the decoder in the dvd player do the
work.
with the optical lead you're letting the decoder in the receiver do the
work.
so in theory it depends on which decoder is best - although chances are
you'd never notice the difference.
on the other hand, 1 optical lead is a whole lot tidier.....
