My new Polaroid DRM-2001G DVDR has a small fan. Heat killed my ILO
DVDRMU1 unit in about 1 year. Once a DVDR succumbs to heat, the only
thing you can do is toss it. It is not worth repairing because each
time they replace one failed component, the next one in the defect
chain fails. I know someone who had his Philips DVDR repaired 4 times.
And it failed again but the warranty had expired so the threw it out.

I would hope so - 10 inches is as big as the unit itself. I think you
meant 10 mm.
Another consideration is air space. You must not cram a DVDR in a
tight space like an entertainment center hutch. It needs lots of
convection room. Also, do not sit anything on top unless you have
spaced it at least 1" above the top. I glued on some plastic spacers
to the bottom of a VCR which I put on top of the DVDR. I can reach
under and feel that the unit is not hot. But without the spacers the
unit got noticeably hot to the touch.
I guess the manufacturers are tired of getting their crap thrown back
at them. Pioneer left the DVD R&D scene because it lost money (they
are moving into Blu-Ray). They will buy components and assemble them.
BTW, I can't hear the fan on my unit, it's so quiet.

Govt is an insult to human dignity. With or without govt,
you would have good people doing good things and evil
people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil
things, that takes govt. Govt is the root of all evil.
