TOUGH GUYS OF THE NHL, PARTNER, QUEEN CHRISTINA, WAR OF THE WORLDS
(2005), and WET ASPHALT:
AMITYVILLE: A NEW GENERATION (reviewed by David Johnson, overall
score 65/100):
"What's more terrifying than a demon-possessed mirror? Actually, a lot
of things."

BEAUTY SHOP (reviewed by David Ryan, overall score 76/100):
"Truth be told, the script here is thinner than the paper it was
presumably written on."

BERLINGUER I LOVE YOU (reviewed by James A. Stewart, overall
score 47/100):
"Hapless heroes are nothing new to movies; they've been around since
Charlie Chaplin. But you'd like them to win a round or two, to get the
girl or at least have a ray of hope in their lives, even when the losers
are as pathetic as Mario. No rays of hope are forthcoming here. Who
wants to see some poor schlub just get clobbered over and over? After 90
minutes or so, it gets to be a little much."

EATING OUT (reviewed by Brett Cullum, overall score 72/100):
"It's something that makes your head spin, as reality television meets
sordid soap opera in a softcore gay teen sex comedy that tries to play
out like Shakespeare or French farce. Got your attention yet?"

EMANUELLE'S DAUGHTER: QUEEN OF SADOS (reviewed by Mitchell Hattaway,
overall score 40/100):
"See, normally these Emanuelle flicks are little more than goofy
showcases for rampant nudity and sex, but that isn't the case here. This
one wastes far too much time on the boring stuff."
FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/queensados.php
GIRLFRIENDS (reviewed by Mac McEntire, overall score 25/100):
"At only 65 minutes, you'd think there wouldn't be enough time for a
wandering narrative, but wander it does."
FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/girlfriends.php
HAVOC: UNRATED VERSION (reviewed by Rob Lineberger, overall score
65/100):
"It's not that Havoc borrows explicitly from another 'white teen angst'
film, but that Havoc is so vague and formless as to suggest hints of
virtually every other rich fish out of water story. The kids are bored,
they borrow from ethnic culture, they do bad things for no good reason
-- and that's about the whole story."
FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/havoc.php
HONOR AND COURAGE: TOUGH GUYS OF THE NHL (reviewed by Ryan Keefer,
overall score 63/100):
"Playoff hockey is something that very few sports can surpass in terms
of skill level, drama, and tension. And this is apparently the first
video coming off the shelves of the NHL video production team, and it's
about hard checks and fighting?"
FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/toughguysnhl.php
PARTNER (reviewed by Dan Mancini, overall score 75/100):
"While Partner's ample Godardian flourishes are derivative, they're also
fun if you're game. It would be entirely disappointing to see a director
as talented as Bertolucci imitate another filmmaker if not for the fact
that his imitation is so spot-on."
FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/partner.php
QUEEN CHRISTINA (reviewed by Jesse Ataide, overall score 79/100):
"At first glance, it would seem that the decision to cast the luminous
Greta Garbo as the homely Christina is Hollywood historical revisionism
at its most overt. But the famed beauty, generally considered as one of
the most beautiful women to ever grace the silver screen, actually turns
out to be an ideal actress to play the masculine queen, for Garbo's
beauty is essentially an androgynous one."

WAR OF THE WORLDS (2005) (reviewed by Ryan Keefer, overall score
68/100):
"And at the end, there's a resolution that can only be described as so
'Spielbergian,' even my cats saw it coming."
FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/warworlds2005.php
WET ASPHALT (reviewed by Rob Lineberger, overall score 45/100):
"The Wet Asphalt DVD has a lot going against it. First is the ridiculous
assertion that it is a lost noir. It is lost because no one has much
interest in it, and Newsies is more noir than Wet Asphalt. This
marketing mishap leads us into an entirely inappropriate frame of mind
to appreciate the film."
