Yeah, but just because there's a "Director's Cut"/whatever, it doesn't
mean that the longer version is necessarily better. I have several DVDs
in both 'standard' and 'extended' forms. Thus far, only two films in my
collection are better (IMO) in their extended form: Leon The
Professional - the R1 version fills-in the blanks so to speak, and
Terminator 2, where the bit is included where the machine's head gets
opened to set it in learning mode, which after umpteen re-releases is
the only version now up for grabs (as I recall).
In many cases, the theatrical cut (OT: why do Yanks call their cinemas
'theaters' FFS? Last time I went to see a film I didn't recall seing a
live performance!) is the better cut, simply because the extra drivel
that has no real value is chopped out.
Still, in the case of the Da Vinci Code, I'll now wait a while before I
buy it just to see what the differences really are. Anyone got a
link/review that sheds any light on the differences?
