30" CRT HDTV 4:3 = $600*
32" CRT SDTV 4:3 = $300*
That's an unreasonable increase in cost for something someone may or may
not even have an interest in.
Yes, I realize that there are development costs to recover in the HD
set. But why should I (or the neighbor) pay those development costs when
we don't care about them? The won't matter for someone's DVDs of SD
shows.
