Went to the Printwork IMAX in mancland today to see this, and I have to
say, it was a very poor choice of film to be made into 3D. So many
elements, while on different plains were quite obviously flat and as 2D
as they come. At the start there is a scene where the woman gets into
her truck and she is completely 2D. OK you can tell that she and the
truck are infront of her house, but they are flat and so are the steps
to her house. Most trees were 2D. The only things that maintained a
pure 3D presence in the film were the deer and the bear.
Apart from that it's a woefully poor film, with only Billy Connolly and
Gary Sinise walking away from it with any credibility.
Makes me dread the upcoming Nightmare before Christmas and the Star Wars
conversions. Cutting 2D elements out and bringing them forward or
backwards does not a 3D film make, as Open Season proves. The only way
they are going to work is if the films are totally re-created with
everything 3D wire meshed with the 2D film images stretched over the
frames.
Basically, if they get it right, it would open the door to making new
films from dead stars, because if you're going to make virtual models of
actors to enable 3D and make them realistic, you can get different
performances from them, like totally redoing the naff and lame Light
Sabre duel from Star Wars for starters.

Oh people, know that you have committed great sins.
If you ask me what proof I have for these words,
I say it is because I am the punishment of God.
If you had not committed great sins,
God would not have sent a punishment like me upon you.
