It sounds like the drive is f*cked. The DVD laser and the CD laser are
often physically seperate, so one type can fail yet still work with the
other.

New DVD writers are dirt cheap nowadays - your "computer man" should
have suggested replacing it.

I hope he didn't charge you - if so, he's a fuckwit who you should *not*
be trusting your equipment to.

Try http://www.svp.com - there are a couple of CD/DVD writers available
for under £20, and they have a very good reputation for customer service
(i've used them for about 5 years)
