Well, the point IS giving them away for free--As in, "First one's..."
Very few 15-24's would have considered buying a DVD player before they
found out their PS2's played them, and nobody was even picturing the PSP
as a mini-player until studios tried to push UMD's on us....But the fact
that you could watch Spiderman on your PSP straight out of the box, gave
you the idea pretty quickly.
Which brings us back to who's going to buy more of which format, after
connecting it to their PS3/X-Box 360's:
The players who got "Talladega Nights" free, or the players who got
"King Kong" free?
(Not to mention, brings up the whole issue we've talked about so far,
ie., "Look, studios, if you're gonna KEEP putting all your recent
B-flops on the new format just to get some return out of them, it's
gonna come back to bite you sooner or later!")
Derek Janssen (but then again, Warner wouldn't have had much luck
bundling the X-Box with the HD "Searchers")
