The HD-DVD movies I'm seeing contain both a DVD and HD-DVD version on
them, so you can buy the "new" version while still being able to use it on
older DVD players.

I haven't seen the Blu-Ray releases do anything similar.

I also don't see DVD going away any time soon. Look at how long stuff was
released on VHS even after DVD had clearly dominated the market.
