I'm currently in the same boat as you with Tiscali. Had broadband
connection then got a message saying they had to do some work in the
exchange and I would lose connection for a few hours. That was the 17
Sept. Still no broadband. I have spent at least a tenner on Tiscali
support plus hours trying to get through to them. Today I got
confirmation that my phone line needed re-enabling and this would take
at least a week.

In the last 2 weeks I have tried 3 modems, 2 PCs, 4 filters and
swapped connections from the extension socket to the BT master socket.
Also reinstalled the software 3 or 4 times for each modem. The tiscali
modem (speedtouch) has 2 lights. One shows power and should be on
steady. The other shows ADSL connection and should be on steady. If it
flashes the ADSL line is stuffed somewhere. If it is off then your
modem is likely stuffed.

Am now using PAYG at about 5p a minute peak time just to get email
and download a few news groups. A letter to Tiscali is in the post
asking for recompense for the expense and trouble their cockup has
cost me. I expect pigs to fly first but one must try :(
