In several years on BOTH newsgroups, I can't remember the last
time this happened (if ever?) How long have you been here?
OTOH I *have* seen filmmakers go to the general film producion
newsgroup: news:rec.arts.movies.producion with sound questions
and they are redirected over to r.a.m.p.s

Good luck with that.

The overwhelming majority of people in this newsgroup are NOT
shooting news or even news-style, and yet are typically using single-
system sound recording (myself included). For whatever reason it
seems to be the nature of most people who come here. Even when
I am doing live-switched multi-camera productions, I send the audio
directly to the VCR(s).
Only when I am doing productions with complex audio (particularly
large-scale music performances) do I do double-system sound, and
then the sound is usualy multi-channel (8-16 track) and intended for
offline mixdown/sweetening and then layed-back to the video before
final editing. (And concurrently edited for CD release, etc.)

Sorry, I'm not seeing your distinction. In either case you are using a
separate sound recorder. In what way is having a dedicated crew
person "more complicated"? IME, it is rather the opposite.

Production decisions indeed. Dunno about "direction decisions"?
Can you elaborate?
